I check out a lot of natural hair pages, as I am obsessed with hair care, since doing my hair is really not my forte (but I'm trying!)  I saw a picture of a beautiful young lady with an auburn afro, lightly blushed cheeks and red stained lips (hot right?)  I was amazed by some of the comments regarding her make up.  Granted not everyone wears or likes make up-to each her own.  But one lady asked "Are sisters really supposed to wear red lipstick?"  Absolutely yes!  Sisters of all hues can definitely wear red lipstick.  The trick is to make sure it is the right red for you.  Lip colors come in so many different textures now from sheer glosses, stains, mattes-there is so much to choose from.  I prefer a matte red lipstick for myself since I have full lips.  Mac Ruby Woo has been my go to red for years.  NYX has a really pretty liquid lip cream that dries to a matte finish.  For staying power, line and fill in your lips with a red pencil.  Bright colors tend to travel, and if wearing red you definitely want to look chic, not clownish.  : )  Play at the make up counter with the various shades and textures until you find the right red for you.  Many places like Sephora will give you samples of things if you want to try out something before you commit to it.  If you prefer to purchase cosmetics at a drug store, go to one with a good return policy.  That way if it doesn't work out, you can always take it back.

I’ve heard it said that make up is “rule-less”, and it truly is.  Just because a product is supposed to be used for a certain part of the face, doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t use it somewhere else. Eye shadow can be used as blush, bronzer, lip color, etc.  One of my new favorite things to do is use one of my sparkly baked eye shadows on my lips. (a brand I really like is Milani)  I apply it with the sponge tip applicator (I don’t use them on my eyes) then I brush on a layer of clear gloss.  You can also put a colored gloss in the same color family on top.  If you don’t have an applicator, just rub the shadow on with a finger.  The effect:  soft, shimmery, diffused color.  I also recently purchased a hot pink eye shadow to use as blush-which looks quite striking on medium to darker complexions.  In beauty, as well as life, sometimes it’s a good thing to break the rules.

I wanted to try this product initially because of the vibrant colors.  However, the first color I purchased was a bronzey neutral-Bad to the Bronze.  I applied it with my fingers, it went on smoothly and worked really well as a primer as well as for a neutral daytime eye.  When I tried the other colors, Tenacious Teal, Painted Purple, Fierce and Tangy, and Edgy Emerald-I became totally enamored.  Bright, crease-free, vibrant colors with awesome payoff...yes!  I did put on more than one coat when I wanted the color to really pop.  They work well when used with loose pigments as well as regular powder eyeshadow.   The shadow does set once applied so if you make any mistakes, you should definitely wipe any excess with a make up remover wipe.  I cannot vouch for it staying on 24 hours because we all know we should never sleep in make up!  If you like a colorful eye with easy to apply products, you should definitely try it out.  It retails for $5.99 at drugstores, Target, Meijer, etc.  Spring is coming, go ahead and try something new!
